CHAPTER TEN

THEY BURST THROUGH the door of Julian’s house. Lips frantic. Hands in hair, on chests, under shirts. No time to speak. No time to breathe.

His body was coiled, begging him to take her where they stood, but he wouldn’t heed that call. There was only one place he wanted her.

He slid his hands under her thighs, through the slit in her dress, picking her up and walking up the stairs to his bedroom. Lily wouldn’t let him stop kissing her, making his blood pound. He couldn’t remember a time when a woman had driven him this crazy.

Julian took her into his bedroom, releasing a string of profanities as he let her slide down his body, bringing her to stand in front of him. He was painfully hard.

Holding Lily’s heavy gaze, Julian trailed his fingers up the back of her neck to the elegant silver clip holding her hair up. As gently as he could, he pulled the long, shiny stick away from the barrette, dropping both pieces to the floor with a clatter. Her hair fell in a waterfall of luscious black. An oil spill over his light hands.

Doing the one thing he had wanted to since stepping into Crème, Julian wrapped the length of her hair around his hand, tugging her head back in a fist to expose her throat. He groaned, tasting the skin there.

Sweet. She was so damn sweet.

That flowery scent, with a hint of vanilla intoxicated him—it was almost as if the bakery had permanently etched itself into her skin.

He kissed her again. Slowly this time. Reverently.

‘Julian...’ she moaned. ‘Stop teasing me.’

But he wasn’t. He was driving himself mad. Wanting to take his time. To taste and kiss every inch of her. Discover her every secret. Find out if she would beg or plead or pray...

‘Sunshine...’ his voice was gruff ‘...tell me you want this.’

He needed to hear her say the words because he had never wanted something so badly in his life.

‘I want this...’ she breathed. ‘Julian?’

‘Hmm?’ He was kissing the spot below her ear that had her melting in his arms.

‘I have to tell you something first.’

He pulled away to look at her. At the serious look on her face. So uncertain...

He tugged on her chin. ‘You can tell me anything.’

‘I’m...’ Her face turned crimson. ‘I’ve never done this.’

He frowned, before understanding took hold. ‘You’re a virgin?’

She nodded, trying to look anywhere but at him. He’d known she was inexperienced. Could tell from her kisses. But he’d never once suspected she would be a virgin. Not especially with her being promised away. Christ, she never had a single moment to enjoy her life.

‘Are you mad?’ she asked.

He couldn’t help but laugh. ‘No, Sunshine. I’m not mad. I am very, very not mad.’

He smiled. A primitive part of him rejoiced.

Lily was his. His and his alone.

He was overcome with relief that he hadn’t lost control the night before, and determined to make this night unforgettable for her.
