SATURN
Saturn is the sixth planet from the Sun and the second largest planet in the Solar System, after Jupiter.
Named after the Roman god of agriculture, its astronomical symbol (♄ ) represents the god's sickle.
Saturn is a gas giant with an average radius of about nine times that of Earth.
Saturn has a lot of rings and the only planet which has visible rings. It’s also the planet with the most moons: 82!
The surface of Saturn appears smooth because the clouds are hidden under a layer of haze.
However, the Cassini probe has spotted lightning storms and a huge swirling storm near the pole.
Saturn's interior is probably composed of a core of iron, nickel and rock (silicon and oxygen compounds), surrounded by a deep layer of metallic hydrogen, an intermediate layer of liquid hydrogen and liquid helium and an outer gaseous layer.
The planet exhibits a pale yellow hue due to ammonia crystals in its upper atmosphere.
Electrical current within the metallic hydrogen layer is thought to give rise to Saturn's planetary magnetic field, which is weaker than Earth's magnetic field but has a magnetic moment 580 times that of the Earth due to Saturn's larger body radius.
