Chapter 6
The Rise of Fake Predictions
âFacts are meaningless. You can use facts to prove anything thatâs even remotely true.â
âHomer Simpson
So far in this cromulent guide, we have dived into situations where The Simpsons has supposedly predicted real events. But the book you are holding would not have the same value if we neglected those âpredictionsâ that are just that, predictions with doubtful quotation marks (i.e., the false and naughty ones), such as the death of Donald Trump.
This is the section of the book which will require us to take off our tinfoil hats for just a brief moment, as we are going to look at some of the more popular false predictions that have circulated onlineâbut donât worry, Iâve brought along some more foil for later on!
Donald Trump
It is no secret that Donald Trumpâs presidency really drove the whole âSimpsons predictionsâ hysteria from crazy town to credible news outlets whose audiences really rallied round to find more examples. Unfortunately, thatâs exactly what happened, and so more âpredictionsâ arose from the crevices of the deep dark internet, remastered, retweeted, and reposted, and through the power of being reshown a large number of times, many took these doctored predictions as fact. It was believed that The Simpsons predicted not only Trumpâs presidency, but also his death.
We already briefly touched on the Donald Trump Simpsons death hoax that continues to be circulated online to this day. The bogus and morbid image shows Donald Trump dead in a casket, and many shared this as proof of things to come. Of course, The Simpsons has never depicted the death of Trump once through seven hundred episodes.
But that is only the tip of the iceberg when it comes to false Trump Simpsons predictions, as it seems he was a hot topic for conversation, leading to clicks, views, followers, and sometimes more money for those fake conspirators. The results: an image of Donald, with a disgruntled Lisa Simpson looking on in the background. This was a mirror image of a popular photo of Greta Thunberg giving the death stare to the former president.
One Twitter post saying, âThe Simpsons predicted it (AGAIN)â garnered 27,000 likes, and 8,116 retweets at the time of writing. Once again, this is a fake image, created after the fact.
Another phony Simpsons image showed the forty-fifth president of the United States with Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz and Egyptian President Abdel Fattah al-Sisi, all holding on to a glowing orb. This was apparently taken from an episode aired in 2002, and lo and behold, this exact scene happened in real life! The Simpsons did it again! Exceptâ¦not really.
This screenshot was taken from a special called â125 Days: Donald Trump Makes One Last Try to Patch Things Up with Comey.â The orb picture can be seen briefly at the start as we pan into the White House, but this special was posted online on May 26, 2017, five days after it actually happened. The Simpsons simply recreated the iconic photograph, which had gone viral due to the sinister impression created by the world leaders bathed in an ominous light.
