Guru Hargobind built a new town at Kiratpur in Ropar district. The work of building this town was taken up by his son Gurditta, who planned the buildings and organized the construction. Gurditta did a wonderful job in the building of the new township and everyone who came to see the new town admired its beauty.

In 1629, another great follower of the Guru, Bhai Gurdas, passed away. Bhai Gurdas had been the scribe who had transcribed the Guru Granth Sahib. He had been one of the great disciples of Guru Ram Das and Guru Arjan Dev; and Guru Hargobind had always regarded him with great respect. But differences had come up between Bhai Gurdas and the Guru, because Bhai Gurdas could not understand the way of life adopted by the Guru. He could not understand why the Guru had taken to a military way of life. In his poems he had compared the way of life of the sixth Guru with the way of life of the earlier Gurus, and expressed his unhappiness with the change. But when he saw the two battles fought against the Mughals, he understood why the Guru had adopted the change in his way of life and came to terms with the change. He died with the knowledge that the Guru had forgiven him for harbouring doubts.
