THE OFFICIAL DEFENSE POSITION

The United States Government (Department of Defense) has basically never officially acknowledged that any kinds of nuclear weapons have been stored at the Seneca Depot at any time. The standard response of the army when asked about the presence of nuclear weapons at the Seneca Depot was: “It is the policy of the Department of Defense to neither confirm nor deny the presence of nuclear weapons at a particular location.” It is common for public affairs officers to talk about “special weapons missions.” “It’s a euphemism that came up years and years ago when people didn’t want to say ‘nuclear,’” says Lieutenant Colonel Mark Foutch, a Pentagon Public Affairs officer.213
