The 42 rooms (all with bath) vary widely, but most have funky antique furniture and tall shuttered windows. There’s a tropical courtyard, and a tiny pool. $131–160
Le Richelieu 1234 Chartres St 504/529-2492, www.lerichelieuhotel.com. Handsome hotel in a restored factory and neighbouring townhouse. Though the old-world ambience of the lobby is not continued in the rather ordinary rooms, they are comfortable and clean. There’s a small (unheated) outdoor pool, a small café, and, uniquely, free on-site self parking. Free wi-fi. $101–130
