Devella fell limp in my arms, her Gift calming beneath her skin. Blood was all over her face and my heart pounded painfully inside my chest. She had run off after seeing something in her room and I could feel her Gift starting to take hold of her. I didnât realise that her restraining herself caused her Gift to tear her apart from the inside.
I looked over at Xander, who still had his hand resting against Devellaâs forehead and my heart broke for him. Tears tracked down his cheeks as he stared at my mate. Over the last few days, Xander had reserved a soft spot for Devella, looking at her like a younger sibling.
âSheâs in so much pain,â Xander whispered as he pulled his hand away and looked up at me.
Another small Gift that Xander had inherited after I turned him, was the ability to force someone unconscious through touch. By doing so though, he could access some of the persons emotions. He didnât like doing it because of the emotions he felt through them.
âI know,â I whispered.
Devella shows a strong front, but the pain behind her eyes was harder for her to hide.
I wrapped my left arm behind Devellaâs shoulder blades, lifting myself up slightly and moving around her to put my other arm underneath her thighs.
My knees stung as I pushed myself up to stand, cradling Devella against my chest. Her soft breaths calming my erratic heart as I looked down at her.
âWeâll have to set up camp somewhere close until she wakes up. Donât keep her unconscious for too long though, or she wonât want to wake up,â I mumbled to Xander as I started to walk back to where we had dropped our bedrolls.
âCan you please grab the box too?â I asked over my shoulder as I remembered watching Devella drop the small thing on the ground.
I heard Xander sigh. I kept walking, Devella limp in my arms. I looked down at her again, pain rippling through my chest as I scanned her bloody face. She looked so peaceful when she slept, until her nightmares came for her.
The Sun was just touching the horizon in front of us. Devella hasnât slept for over three days. Guilt wrapped around me, and I frowned.
Iâd been trying to keep my distance from Devella, but that hasnât worked out so well. I needed to get the rest of the map before I could let any feelings come into my life. I had gone too far last night in the water, but I donât regret it. Not one bit.
The moans she made for me while I gave her, her release are my favourite sounds. I could not wait to draw those sounds from her again. My cock twitched at the thought, and I groaned softly, readjusting Devella in my arms.
Xander and I walked until the Sun had long since set, the moon lighting up our path. I didnât realise we had left our bedrolls so far away, but we couldnât leave Devella by herself to walk through the woods.
