Strengthening the Multicultural Nature of Orthodoxy

The intrinsically cross-cultural nature of orthodoxy provides the third level of evidence of its rebirth. There is a growing awareness within the church at large that orthodox life has a practical capacity to energize greater fairness in social relations and public policy.

Classic Christian orthodoxy has far more potential to work for good as a global and multicultural phenomenon than do strictly secular modern models. It has resources and energies for social transformation that are unavailable to its humanistic and secular counterparts.

There is growing evidence to confirm a recent shift of consciousness in society toward a higher valuation of faith-based charitable networks. The media culture is belatedly recognizing the social value of traditional Jewish and Christian moral reasoning. The sociological evidence is pouring in on what makes for sustainable societies, and that evidence clearly shows that those rooted in classic moral teaching are more effective at designing and implementing behavioral transformation than are supposedly value-free or secular governmental strategies. This evidence rises from scientific social analysis, studies of the relation of religion and culture, cross-cultural studies, and studies of public policy and strategies for social effectiveness.
