âWell, I was gonna just borrow some shoujo manga at first, but I noticed you had several copies of the same volumes, and it made me curious.â
âWell, duh, itâs The Noble King! This one is my copy for personal useâI can read it as many times as I like without worrying itâll get messed up. This one is a copy for lending to others when I want to spread the gospel. The one with the protective cover is to keep it in mint condition. Buying multiple copies of the same volume is fujoshi 101 stuff!â
âOooh, in that case, rejoice, Maki! Thy gospel-spreading copy hath produced thy first Noble King convert! Boys Love is actually pretty awesome! Itâs a whole new world. So do you have Volume 3?â
âHoly shit⦠Well, Volume 2 is the latest in the series. Volume 3 doesnât come out until next month.â
âLame. So wait, does this mean we have to wait until the next volume to find out how our hero was saved? To find out who defeated all those enemies? Iâm not liking the vagueness here!â
âUm, obviously Sil awakened to his true powers!â
âYou mean the hero? Lame. Maki, youâre wrongâitâs gotta be Sirius or some whole new hero. Sil was just a decoy hero to fool us until the epic plot twist.â
âDude, itâs Sil!â
âNo, itâs Sirius or a new surprise hero!â
My first successful convert was my big sister in my past life. And Volume 2 was the first time Silâs trance came up. After rereading it, though, I realized there were glimpses of it in Volume 1âs illustrations, too.
In one scene, Sil is surrounded by enemies, staring death in the face! But he loses consciousness there. Blackout. Then, in the next scene, all the enemies are lying at his feet. The story doesnât explain who defeated Silâs assailants. Whatâs more, incidents of a similar nature happened in the following volumes many times.
Was it Siriusâ¦or a new character? I kept bouncing back and forth between the two theories. But there was one major clue in the last volume Iâd readâone of the illustrations strongly implied it was Sil. Then againâ¦Iâm really just going off vibes here. The question still hadnât been resolved in the story proper yet.
âHey, Sis! Did you read the latest volume?! Man, that fighting scene between Sil and Sirius, right?! The conflict in Sirius was so beautifully tragic!â
âOh, Maki. So young. So naive. We still know nothing until the next volume comes out. There might be a big plot twist in store.â
âOh, Sis, just let it go alreadyâ¦â
I was Team Sil, and my sister was Team Someone Else. Every time a new volume was released, there were heated discussions between us. Unfortunatelyâ¦before I could get my hands on the latest volume that supposedly answered that question, I died.
And I might be witnessing it in action right nowâamong a chain of events that hadnât happened in the source material.
So I was right! It was Sil awakening to his secret powers! Take that, Sis!
His trigger was a mystery.
