CHAPTER 21
As she had hoped, she did recognize the identity of the dark figure when his face looked toward the camera. It was the man she saw in the elevator at the hospital! What a shock? Why would he be getting rid of Maggieâs phone? He must be the man who attacked Maggie?
âLeon! I need pictures of these particular frames? I specifically want the best quality possible of the several frames where the manâs face is toward the camera.â
âIâll take over from here. Iâll get this to our computer tech, and youâll have your pictures this afternoon.â
With the frames captured, she slowly continued to play the video. The man took an object out of his pocket, and didnât just toss it into the trash bin, but with his gloved hands, rummaged in the trash and then appeared to insert it into the trash as deep as he could reach, using his gloved hand to rake trash over the spot. She paused the tape as soon as he ran out of the frame, and sat in shock for a moment or two. I caught him red handed.
Paisley thanked Leon. Feeling good about her discovery, she left the Precinct and decided to call Boone to see what he and Ramsey were doing.
âMorning Pais! Ramsey and I are moving some of my things from my cabin to Ravenâs Nest. While weâre on the phone, where do you want to meet for dinner?â
âYou two pick the place and text it to meâ¦I should be able to leave the Precinct around five tonight, so I can meet you at the house to change clothes and we can leave from there.â
Before she arrived at the Law Firm, she thought sheâd fold up the picture of the man from the elevator to take with her to show to some of the lawyers and maybe Ginny, if she happened to be working today. After parking in the company garage, Paisley entered the building, then braced herself for the receptionistâs hostel attitude. She was correct. The receptionistâor was she the sentinelâgave her the what-are-you-doing here look.
âWhereâs your boyfriend?â
Paisley, startled at her tone, didnât let this ruffle her feathers, but instead gave Maleficent a pleasant smile and responded, âHeâs busy today, so Iâm here to talk toâ¦â she had to think quickly! She hadnât thought about which lawyer she wanted to question?
âWellâwho are you here to harass this time?â
Apparently, this receptionist has never read, âHow to Win Friends and Influence People.â But perhaps reading isnât one of her skills! Maybe all she was capable of, was looking stylish and being rude.
With conviction and manners, Paisley gathered herself and said, âIâd like to see Mr. Banks, please.â
With a scowl and an audible sigh, the secretary went to see if he was available. While she was gone, Paisley noted the nameplate on her desk, it read Ms. Clampitt. When Ms. Clampitt returned, she reluctantly said, âYou may go insideâbut stay in our refreshment area, until Mr. Banks is through with his phone call.
