I walked down the hall to the guest room where Sara was staying. I knocked lightly. “Sara, are you up?”

She opened the door with a bright smile. “I am! I was just coming to find you. I was hoping we could go for a walk in the woods.”

I laughed. “Of course. Do you want to get breakfast first?”

“Maybe something light.” She shrugged.

“You’re in America,” I teased. “We love breakfast.”

“Trust me, I haven’t forgotten the last breakfast we had here. I think I’m still full from those pancakes.”

“Why don’t we make a couple of coffees to go?” I suggested. “I’m not quite as tough as you. I need caffeine in the morning.”

We made our way down to the kitchen and grabbed a couple of Stanley mugs and filled them up. I snatched one of the muffins from the counter with Sara doing the same.

We walked out the back door and followed the path that led into the woods. The warm morning air filled our lungs as we strolled leisurely through the dense trees, the sounds of chirping birds and rustling leaves creating a soothing melody around us.

“It’s so humid,” Sara said.

I laughed. “Welcome to South Carolina. Usually, around July, we live in the pool.”

“We have a beautiful estate that we visit a lot in the summer,” Sara said. “Next year, you’ll be with us hopefully.”

“If Warren and I do marry, will you be going into the season next year?”

“That’s the intention,” she said.

“If you’re married, you’re going to be moving away,” I said. “Or will your husband be moving into the palace? That could be fun! I vaguely remember the place, but I know it’s huge. We can have a couple’s night. You can help show me the ropes.”

She smiled. “I have no idea what the plan will be or who Warren is going to marry me off too.”

“But because you’re a princess, you’ll have to marry a king or prince.”

Sara nodded. “That’s how it usually goes. But you never know, maybe I’ll surprise everyone and marry a commoner.”

I chuckled at the thought. “That would certainly shake things up in the royal circles.”

We walked in silence for a moment, enjoying the peacefulness of the woods surrounding us. The sunlight filtered through the towering pine and cedar trees, casting a warm glow on the narrow path ahead.

“Do you ever feel overwhelmed by all of it?” I asked suddenly.

“At times, yes. The weight of expectations, the constant scrutiny. It can be suffocating. Are you worried about being queen?”

“I worry about your people accepting a foreigner,” I said. “And being put right into the queen role. What if no one wants me to be on any of the charity boards or other duties I’m supposed to do?”

“You’re worrying way too much about this stuff,” she said. “Warren isn’t going to throw you to the wolves. He’s going to take care of you.”

“I guess I’m getting way ahead of myself. I don’t even know if Warren and I are going to make it down the aisle.
