CHAPTER 8 - VARDON

I never knew that leaving Daval's side would be this hard. It took every bit of strength and courage I had with me not to turn back. Just the idea of looking back scared me because I knew that if I did, that would be the end of it, I would go back to Daval and then the war would end us both. But I could not let that happen, so I flew straight until I found myself back in Kasamir's territory.

Kasamir seemed to have everything ready. No other sounds came from his cottage, alerting me that Adelbert and their child were already back in the palace. In front of his house stood what I assumed to be an Abarimon airship and he was dressed in what I assumed to be Abarimon clothes. "You seem to have everything in order," I said as a greeting.

"I knew you would come, so I prepared. Here," he threw me the same thing he was wearing. "It's an Abarimon soldier's armor. It will disguise us from them. They can't see us very well, can only distinguish our color, so if we wear this, we'll blend in and be able to travel without being seen." I groaned but nodded. I had grown used to wearing just my piece of cloth, but this armor covered my entire body. I did not want to wear it but knew that the success of our mission hung on the balance. It was a tight fit, but I didn't expect for it to fit well. It seemed that these Abarimon were tall but extremely thin. But I did not dare underestimate them as they had killed Audric, a Great Dragon.

"Come, we must hurry. The sooner we go, the earlier we can come back." After Kasamir had hauled the rest of our things and himself into the airship, I followed him. I could see that he had packed some food, extra clothes and things to keep us warm if the journey ever turned cold.

"Where are we headed first?" I asked, taking a seat on the floor of the ship. It was not wide and could hold only the two of us. It was a tight fit with me sitting down, and I had to bend my knees just to be a little comfortable.

"Sastril. From here, it's closer to us than any of the territories, and we won't even need to get too close to the main city because the dragon will be at its borders. That's where we hid ourselves."

I nodded. I remembered that part of the agreement, hiding ourselves so no one but the Small Ones could find us. The only danger was that not even we knew where the other Great Dragons were hidden.

"It is a shame we do not know how Audric planned to wake us in case these times happened," I started to say.

Kasamir hummed his agreement. "It doesn't matter. If we perform the ritual, we just need to be in the territory of the Great Dragon and he'll hear our call.
