83 Psychologist and historian John Hall, in a lecture entitled ‘New Kids on the Block’ at the Institute of Psychiatry, King’s College London (9 November 2010) emphasised that clinical psychology in Britain had no single model or professional organisation until later in the twentieth century. With typical vanity Hans Eysenck at the Maudsley Hospital claimed that he single-handedly developed clinical psychology as a discipline, but its expansion was very slow. In 1970 Hall was appointed as a research assistant at the huge mental institution at Wakefield, Yorkshire, where input was restricted to two sessions per week by a clinical psychologist from the nearby prison (and that was for a research project).
