Chapter Four - Interruptions

“Carmen, it’s me, Mel. Are you okay?”

Carmen opens the door. The cold air feels good on her face and body. She smiles at Mel. He’s got a paper bag in his hand.

“I brought you some soup. My mother always says chicken soup is good for the soul and the stomach.” Carmen chuckles and takes the bag from Mel. She is thinking about Bonnie in the bedroom and just wants to get back there, but she can’t be rude to sweet Mel.

“Do you want to come in for a moment?” Carmen opens the door wider. As she breathes in the cold air, she smells herself and wonders if Mel can smell the sex that surrounds her as well. If he does, he doesn’t make mention of it. Instead he walks in and looks around.

“It’s nice here.”

“It came furnished. But I won’t be here for much longer. As you know.”

“You know, that really pisses me off. Do you mind if I sit down on the couch, you still look flushed and I don’t want to get sick. Not with the Shadow Woods presentation coming up. I mean, you’re worth getting sick over.” Mel smiles shyly. “But if it’s a flu, you know.”

“Of course, Mel, I think it’s a 24 hour thing. I’m feeling much better already.”

“Well the soup will help. I hope. Even if it’s just a 24 hour thing.” Mel clears his throat for a second. “You don’t mind talking for a bit, do you?”

“Of course not.”

Bonnie sits on the bed and realizes that Mel is going to stay a little while and she’ll be stuck in the bedroom. Then she feels like she has to pee. The bathroom is just outside the bedroom, but she’ll been in plain sight if she tries to make it. Instead, Bonnie distracts herself. She looks around the bedroom and opens the nightstand.
