Chapter 18

Friday, November 25

We’d spent the last couple of hours since I’d gotten back from questioning TJ going over the plan for the meeting with Alex Gray this evening.

Blue had been spying on Shady Inc. and Alex Gray during the time I’d been away and would continue to until the meeting. So far, it didn’t look like I’d be walking into a trap.

The biggest debate we had about this meeting was whether I should wear my armor or not. I wanted this meeting to be a show of strength on our part and walking in wearing armor could be taken as a sign of weakness. Stella argued that it was part of my Hamilton Hurricane persona now and that I should wear it to reflect that status. Neither Blue nor Cynthia had an opinion one way or the other. In the end, I decided to forgo the armor and opted to go with the formal wear I usually wore to the English Vampire Court. The vampire mob boss we’d dealt with in Vegas seemed to appreciate that I dressed up to meet him and I hoped Alex Gray would too.

Fifteen minutes before the meeting, Cynthia’s phone rang, and she announced it was her mom calling. She moved to the far corner of the room as she answered it.

As Blue put the final adjustment on my tie, I kept an eye on Cynthia and noticed her body stiffen, and I grew concerned. She had her back to me, which meant I couldn’t read her facial expression to get a better read on what was going on. She was also keeping her voice low.

Blue stepped back and nodded in approval at her work and then frowned as she noticed my demeanor. She turned her attention to Cynthia and we both waited for her to end the call.

Cynthia hung up and was clutching her phone so hard her knuckles were white. “Logan was spotted in my hometown.”

“Is your family okay?” I asked. Cynthia nodded. “Where and how long ago was this sighting?”

“The bastard actually stopped for dinner at Betsy’s diner in town. He was just finishing up his food when a news report came on the TV and his picture was displayed. Mom said this happened an hour ago. An alert to law enforcement went out, and police have blocked outbound lanes of the Confederation Bridge and are searching vehicles before allowing them to cross. That is probably a waste of time; I’d bet Logan used a boat to get there.”

I hadn’t known the name of the bridge, but I knew there was just one roadway that connected PEI to the rest of Canada. “Why do you think he used a boat?”

“He fled from the diner on foot.”

The lack of a vehicle outside the diner certainly added weight to Cynthia’s theory.

“Do we go search for him?” asked Blue.

I glanced at my phone and weighed our options. It was coming up on seven and I needed to make that meeting with Alex Gray. Another
