3.6.2 Similarities Between Male and Female Leaders
(1)There was no significant difference in the geographical mobility of men and women.
With the acceleration of modernization, population migration has become increasingly complex in modern societies, and the purposes and manners of migration are diverse. On July 7, 1990, the CPC Central Committee promulgated the “CPC Central Committee decision on the implementation of CPC and state organs and leading exchange system” (Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, 1990). A remote exchange mechanism was implemented in China. Leaders from different places are transferred to meet China’s economic and social development needs and to achieve a more rational allocation of human resources, effectively train leaders and curb tendencies to engage in nepotism (Wu, 2013). Traditionally, Chinese women assume more family responsibilities and obligations than do men, and the majority of women cannot escape these responsibilities and obligations. Longer periods of geographical mobility can inconvenience the daily lives of female leaders. In this study, we hope that geographical mobility can be used as an indicator of whether off-site communication affects female leaders. This study found that 40% of male and female leaders are geographically mobile, and the geographical span of service was not significantly different between men and women. Thus, it can be inferred that geographical mobility is not an obstacle to the leadership of women; women can reasonably handle their family responsibilities and work flows in order to lead. Of course, working in a different place from where one was born does not necessarily indicate physical separation from one’s family.
(2)In the context of internationalization, women’s experience with overseas visits is comparable to that of men.
