ALHFAM “Breeds and Seeds” Survey

One of the purposes of the survey was to set up a clearinghouse for museums interested in historic plants and livestock. Since the survey went out several interesting developments have occurred. One is that the American Minor Breeds Conservancy has been reorganized with renewed interest and publicity. It is willing to serve as a clearinghouse for historic crossbreeds as well as other breeds. Additionally, the Seeds Savers Exchange has found increasing interest and has obtained several major collections of beans. It is working with the Organic Farm Research Center in its preservation efforts. Tom Woods of Kelly Farm has been in touch with Kent Whealy of SSE discussing the role of museums in the Seed Savers network. All members of ALHFAM interested in historic breeds and seeds would do well to join both AMBC, Box 225A, Hardwick, Massachusetts, 01037, and SSE, Kent Whealy, Rural Route 2, Princeton, Missouri, 64673,1 as well as seeking the cooperation of other ALHFAM members.
