About My Dad

I’m thrilled that Steve Emecz of MX Publishing has published a book of my father’s Sherlock Holmes artwork.

It was my Dad’s desire to have his humorous cartoons and illustrations published in 1979, nearly thirty-four years ago. He had contacted a literary agent, but became critically ill before plans could be finalized. This book fulfills his dream.

Norman Schatell was not merely the most well-known Sherlockian artist of the 1970s. He was also an avid collector of everything and anything related to Sherlock Holmes that he came across: radio scripts, first editions, magazines, newspaper articles, movie posters, toys, games, and an endless amount of memorabilia.

He received great joy sharing his enthusiasm, and artwork, with all his Sherlockian friends. He would be happy to know that many new Sherlock Holmes fans will smile and laugh when they look at his cartoons and drawings.
