Exercise on the JumpStart Diet Is Limited

While you follow the Jump Start Diet you cannot exercise beyond walking 15 minutes a day. The reason is that this diet is deliberately designed to deplete your glycogen stores to rapidly get you into a fat-burning state. You just won’t have the energy to do much in the way of serious exercise.

However, 15 minutes on the treadmill, or a quick walk around the block, is not only a quick way to burn some calories, it really does aid in digestion. In one 2009 study, researchers found that walking has a significant effect on blood sugar after meals. However, researchers found that a walk after dinner led to lower postmeal blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes than either a walk before dinner or no walking at all. Another study, published in Diabetes Care, found that in older adults who were overweight and sedentary, walking for 15 minutes shortly after each meal improved daily blood sugar levels to a greater extent than a single 45-minute walk in the morning. This may be because a postmeal walk helps clear glucose from the bloodstream as it is absorbed by the muscles.
