JIDOOR

A city in the far west of the principal continent, Jidoor is one of the largest cities in the Final Fantasy VI world. Unlike the majority of other similar cities, it has not developed according to its type of trade or location, but rather according to its residents. The middle class live in the lower level of the city and the rich in the upper area. Its other peculiarity is how it has wiped out all trace of poverty: “harmful” elements were thrown out and they founded the nearby town of Zozo. Jidoor is very important in the game because of its opera house and because it is the source of the post-apocalypse quest involving Relm and the world’s richest man, Owzer, the legendary art gallery owner. Owzer commissions the young girl to paint a masterpiece for him that ends up being possessed by a demon. The newly reunited team finds Relm entranced before the creature in the painting. As a city for the wealthy, Jidoor also boasts an auction house in which rare items can be bought in a bidding war. This concentration of wealth and art demonstrates to what point the world in Final Fantasy VI has lost the value of knowledge sharing against the backdrop of a pursuit of technology and rampant industrial revolution.
