As we have already seen, Maimonides grounds the authority of the Torah in the unique prophecy of Moses (5, §12). Therefore, no subsequent prophet can make law. Maimonides here excludes prophets from any participation in the legal process, turning Rabbi Yehoshuaâs pronouncement âIt is not in heavenâ into a constitutional principle.
