CHAPTER FOURTEEN

"I would've loved to be hobnobbing it with my favorite artist while sipping champagne right now," Alexandra sighed as she climbed her porch steps. "Maybe it's time for me to find a new job," she mumbled, letting herself into her home. It wasn't until she discarded her purse on the couch that she realized something was off.

Alexandra whirled around and spotted the green light engaged on her security system. She never keyed in her code. "Did I forget to set the alarm?" Alexandra asked in disbelief. It wasn't like her to forget to arm her home, but then again, she had been so distracted by the thought of being dicked down that it was plausible.

Alexandra made a beeline to her kitchen. She needed a stiff drink that would put her on her ass for the rest of the night. Regrettably, she had watched everything she was interested in on Netflix, and there would be no lusty bedtime story to ease her to La-La Land. Alexandra was so desperate for dick that she hoped an incubus would visit her in her dreams.

Alexandra yanked one of the stainless-steel French doors open, flooding the dark kitchen with the bright lights. She hummed as she reached for the vodka, nestled between a pint of pistachio ice cream and a bag of mixed frozen fruit she often used for breakfast smoothies.

Alexandra screamed when an arm wrapped around her waist, yanking her off her feet. She flailed around while the intruder attempted to cover her mouth with their hand. Alexandra's first instinct was to repeatedly kick the offender in the shin.

"Fuck!" a muffled voice cried out, dropping Alexandra to the floor. The bottle of vodka shattered into a million pieces. Alexandra cried out once a shard of glass pierced her palm as she attempted to crawl away from her attacker. She scrambled to her feet, but she wasn't quick enough. He stood in front of the kitchen's exit, effectively blocking her escape. If she wanted to leave, she would have to go through him.

"L-listen, I-I have jewelry...and money. J-just take what you want, and leave," Alexandra stammered, trying to reason with the man. Her heart was jackhammering in her chest, pounding against it like a landlord beating on the door looking to collect on delinquent rent. Alexandra's nerves ramped up even more since the man refused to acknowledge her or move a muscle. "P-please don't hurt me," she pleaded, feeling the tears stream down her face. "My husband will be here any moment, and he'll call the police," she lied, slowly backing away.

The guilt threatened to overtake Daniel. He was two seconds away from ripping his mask off and confessing, but at what cost? His freedom? If caught, Daniel knew he would be serving a prison sentence due to his idiot brother, who decided to bring a firearm. Then what would happen if they were locked up and the other burglaries were finally connected to them? Daniel knew Greg would fold like a lawn chair just to get a few years shaved off his prison sentence.
