32. Ugly Seaweed Barbie THrows A Tantrum
I came to with the dark shadow of Raven standing over me, along with three other shadows.
“She’s alive,” Raven said.
“Well, that’s wonderful,” one of the other shadows said with delight.
I sat up and blinked hard.
Once I could see, I recognized the first shadow—the one happy to know I wasn’t dead as Damian. The other two were Chug, and Uncle Justin.
He offered his hand to help me up, but I didn’t take it.
“Thanks for saving us back there, with The Fragment.” I said, purely out of necessity.
I mean, I was glad he was still alive, but that didn’t change his lies. Or blaming me for them.
It still hurt my head to think about it. How could he make such a stupid claim?
He pulled his hand back and huffed.
“You’re welcome,” he said. “We followed you to the Abandoned Zone, but then...”
He glanced at Damian, who looked down at the path like he didn’t notice.
“We came back, got past Anna’s little mirror scheme, and waited here for you.”
“I told you they’d show up.” Damian said. “Though I don’t know why he’s here. I hoped to never see him again.”
“Feeling’s mutual.” Chug said. “You think I enjoyed tackling your face? Oh, wait…Yeah, I totally enjoyed that.”
Raven smiled. It was just for a second, but Chug saw it and I swear his chest puffed out an extra three inches.
“The kid with the attitude can stay if he wants.” Justin said.
“Not a kid.” Chug noted, holding up his gun for everyone to see.
Justin ignored him.
“Just as long as the girls here are motivated,” he continued. “I mean, it’s not like Disorder’s going to just give Anna up to us if we ask him. You know what I mean?”
As if he couldn’t be any ruder, he nudged Raven in the arm.
“Hey, keep your hands off the lady.” Chug said, sliding between Justin and Raven.
“Or what?” Justin smirked, and started down the path.
Chug took those two words as a personal challenge and quickly followed after him, detailing exactly what would happen if he tried to touch Raven again.
“I guess we’re going that way?” I said.
“It’s the only way we haven’t tried.” Damian chimed. “We scouted ahead, but circled back because Justin didn’t want you guys to get left behind.”
“And yet, I still don’t like him.” Raven grumbled.
Then she seemed to remember I was there.
“I mean,” she stammered. “I don’t trust him.”
“It’s okay,” I told her. “I feel pretty much the same way.”
“No, I mean—there’s something Wynona was telling me back in the old house. She said—”
“Yeah, except I don’t care.” Damian broke in. “What’s important is that Justin is annoying. He wanted to get you back at any costs. It got annoying quick. But when Mr. Reggie’s got involved, I took matters into my own hands.”
“So coming back was your idea?” I asked.
“Yep. I can’t stand Mr. Reggie’s…”
Damian trailed off as we walked on the path. Raven snapped her fingers, pulling him back into the real world.
“Can’t stand Mr. Reggie’s what?”
“I said I hate his food! There’s no need to shove your fingers in my face.
