CHAPTER 28

The essences of the special amulet I obtained by a crazy loot drop stirred, helping guide my invisible astral projection. In a way, I felt like I was actually there, capable of flying around, limitations aside.

[Awakened Sorcerer’s Amulet: Item rank: SS. Item quality: Exotic. The path of a sorcerer shall reveal itself to you. The strands of fate for the legendary golden potion maker have wrapped themselves around your soul. This amulet has automatically soul bound to you and cannot be undone, except by you.

Essences: Wyvern, elemental mana, anti-magic, heavens.]

Using sorcerer’s sight, I observed the situation up close. It turned out the princess did not like being dismissed to go walk all the way to some random farm.

“Even if this E-ranked town had a lord, there’s still an appointed mayor,” one of Ling’s guards said. She appeared to be a woman in her twenties. In fact, the age range of the princess’s Roses appeared to be from sixteen to mid-twenties. However, even a donkey would be able to tell they were magicians. Some of them were quite powerful, which gave a nod to the queen’s personal knight.

Did that mean Myster had a powerful bodyguard as well? No, that guy looked as if he thrived off paranoia for a living. I doubted he trusted his own mother.

Suddenly, Mom’s astral projection appeared next to mine. Pops’s too, a second later.

“So this is the princess you can’t seem to get rid of,” Pops said. “I should probably say this now, but having her fight your wife, a loved princess of the dryad kingdom, may cause an international incident.”

“Unless she found some reason to go after Milia, we won’t have any problems in that regard,” I reassured.

We turned back to the entourage. One of the mayor’s guards had opened the door, allowing the princess and her group inside. The one who tried to send them my way ended up being reprimanded. It turned out he was as country bumpkin as one got. Brand new to the guard, as well as born and reared in Kyushu, never been to the city.

Mom, Pops, and I followed Ling and her guard right inside. I could feel Milia at my side back at the house, and I knew I missed a pout. Wolverine laid in front of me. It took everything not to break this spell to pet him.

The mayor and his staff bowed.

“Welcome to Kyushu, Princess,” Mayor Rue greeted. “H—”

“Captain, there is no need to be formal. Besides, I will not be in town for long,” Ling interrupted. “In a few days, this place will become far too busy for my liking. It appears the nobility cannot get their priorities together.”

That coming from Ling, of all people, said a lot about the entourage headed our way.

“You’re referring to those rumors of something happening in Jasper,” the mayor said. “Do you know if we’re helping?”

Ling frowned. “All of my precious little people are talking about it. Father will certainly cancel his meeting with the Astral Emperor and hopefully call upon my brothers and any non-royal general to march a strong force into Jasper.
