Those are inspiring words of what prayer can do for us. (Read that familiar hymn, over and over, line by line. It may really pull prayer together for you.)

Prayer in Heaven

Through God’s grace we have been created.

So God created man in His own image; in the image of God He created him; male and female He created them.

Genesis 1:27

Through God’s grace we have been saved.

But God, who is rich in mercy, because of His great love with which He loved us, even when we were dead in trespasses, made us alive together with Christ (by grace you have been saved), and raised us up together, and made us sit together in heavenly places in Christ Jesus, that in the ages to come He might show the exceeding riches of His grace in his kindness toward us in Christ Jesus. For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Ephesians 2:4–9

Through God’s grace we are sustained in this life.

And lest I should be exalted above measure by the abundance of the revelations, a thorn in the flesh was given to me, a messenger of Satan to buffet me, lest I be exalted above measure. Concerning this thing I pleaded with the Lord three times that it might depart from me. And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, . . . in distresses, for Christ’s sake. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

2 Corinthians 12:7−10

Through God’s grace we have eternal life.

My sheep hear My voice, and I know them, and they follow Me. And I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; neither shall anyone snatch them out of my hand.

John 10:27–28

Through the grace of God, we live, abide in this life, and are saved for life eternal. Grace allows us to pray, and prayer is a means of grace. Through prayer we have access to the throne of God. Prayer becomes the language for our visits with God and prayer becomes the language of heaven. As we pray in this life, we are honing our language skills for heaven.

Heaven is where God dwells. Heaven is where, through the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, we will live forever. According to a recent Newsweek poll, 76 percent of Americans believe in heaven. Seventy-one percent think it is an actual place. Where it is, how big it is, or what is its setting is of no real importance. Heaven is a spiritual experience where we will enjoy life forever. To be ready to communicate with God, whose dwelling place heaven is, it is to our advantage to make a habit of communing with God in this earthly life. When we reach that other side for our life eternal, we will feel at home.
