“Well, this is all truly fascinating and incredible.” Anton looked with wonder from person to person after he’d heard the news about the shared nightmares. “You never cease to amaze me.”

Next, Lin and Viv discussed their ideas that the hotel fire was not an accident.

Anton pushed his glasses up his nose and squared his shoulders. “How did those ideas slip past me? Perhaps Mara did indeed set the fire to try and receive the insurance proceeds. She may have been clever in how she set it. The authorities may have missed the details that would have pointed to arson. And if Mara didn’t set the fire, you are quite correct that someone may have deliberately set the hotel ablaze in order to kill her. So many twists and turns to consider. I must go back to research the cause of the fire. I skipped over that information with my preconceived notions that it was accidental. That was a critical mistake, and one I rarely make.”

Lin made an effort to keep a smile from her face.

Anton asked, “Why would someone want Mara dead? Have you considered the reasons someone might attempt to kill the woman? Is that why she’s always putting off a red color? Is her rage manifesting as a red aura?”

“We don’t know why someone might have wanted to kill her,” Viv said. “We really don’t know much about her so we can’t even guess what a motive might be.”

Lin thought about what Anton had said. “I don’t think the red aura comes from Mara being angry, but I haven’t figured out which mood or emotion the red color is giving off. Maybe it represents the fire that took her life.”

“What emotions do you feel from the woman?” Anton questioned.

Pausing to consider what she’d felt from the ghost before giving her reply, Lin said, “I don’t feel any rage when Mara appears. I sense concern, worry, a need for help. I don’t feel regret or sorrow from her. She needs help, but I can’t figure out what she wants us to do for her.”

Viv said, “Mara’s great-great granddaughter has lost her husband recently and her daughter will require surgeries and rehabilitation from the accident, but there isn’t anything we can do to help her with that.”

“Mara must need aid of a different kind,” Anton suggested.

Lin’s heart sank. But what kind is it?
