For Lin, it was a long day at work especially since she’d only had a few hours of sleep in her interrupted night. By the end of her landscaping jobs, she was dragging, but a shower and something to eat revived her. A little.

She and Nicky headed out for a walk to Sunset Hill and when they arrived there, the dog investigated the field while Lin sat on the wooden bench under the shade tree. The sun was sinking toward the horizon and the heat of the day was dissipating a bit.

Lin let her thoughts wander to the previous night and the images and sounds she experienced when facing the red glowing circle of light. Were the visions and sounds from the past or the future? Who were the people in the vision?

Flames, a woman’s terrified face, shouts. She remembered a little boy calling for his mother.

What did it mean? Lin thought one of the women in the visions was the ghost-woman she’d met at the oldest house, and that was why she’d come that evening. She hoped to make contact with her.

Viv had to work late at the bookstore, otherwise she would have come along with her cousin. Lin was concerned that the ghost wouldn’t communicate with her since the last time they came to the old dwelling, she’d reached out to Viv.

Letting the peace and quiet of the evening calm her, Lin felt the tension of the last couple of days release from her muscles and she relished the sensation of warmth running through her. When she glanced over at the old house, she noticed a soft golden glow by the corner of the place.

Ever so slowly, the ghost-woman shimmered and took form.

Lin faced her and spoke with her mind. Last night, I saw a vision with you in it. You were upset, frantic. I also heard a little boy. He was calling for his mother.

The ghost’s particles glowed a deep shade of red.

I’m trying to put the pieces together. I’m trying to understand what you need. I’m trying to understand what the ghost from the glowing orb wants me to do. What do you want me to do?

Silence. Nothing. The see-through woman just looked back at Lin.

Lin tried again. What’s your name?

Nothing.

I know you have a connection to the glowing light at the Cross Street Hotel. I know you must have a connection to the ghost-man who is seen at the hotel some nights. But I need some help to make sense of it all.

The ghost’s light began to grow dim. In a moment, her atoms flickered and she was gone.

Lin sighed and stood. She called to her dog and he came bounding out of the field.

“Let’s go see Anton, Nick. Maybe he knows something that will help. My interaction with the ghost wasn’t very useful. Maybe next time.”

As they started to leave the property, Lin felt a buzz in her head.

Anna.

A sense of joy rushed through her.

“Nicky. Our visit was useful. The ghost just told me her name.
