The tabular form shows that the Indian approach was to disassemble tones and subtones into at least three components worth 22 cents (the syntonic comma of 81/80),70 cents (the chromatic semitone of 25/24) and 90 cents (the Pythagorean leimma of 256/243), within which the scales could be realized, transposed by a fifth. The Pythagorean tone (T) and just tone (t) differ by 81/80, the syntonic comma. But then an extra unit of 22 cents is shown within all three interval types, revealing that the Pythagorean leimma can be found in all three intervals, (t, s, and T) while the chromatic semitone is within each of the tones (t and T).
