CHAPTER SIXTEEN

The date for the entrance to the Tower had been set, and Morgan spent all of his time crafting and experimenting. He improved on his grenades and created different types of arrows, crafting everything in large quantities. Once they entered the first floor, they would be unable to leave until they reached the end of that floor—which could be up to a year from them entering the Tower, even with the guides that they had. This was because while the three bosses remained the same, they would need to accomplish three quests, one for each boss, before they would be able to fight them…and the quests changed every time.

Staying so long inside meant that they had to take care to bring enough supplies to last in there, which meant carrying storage rings filled with food and water. Apparently the third floor had a village where people lived, and they gave out quests as well as traded with ascended. Apparently they weren’t ascended themselves, but they were far more powerful than ascended. Morgan was still not sure what the floors were, how they worked. If a raid group entered they would be locked to the Tower, meaning that if they left the Tower after the first floor, they could return and be dropped onto the second floor, the same with the third. If an ascended didn’t return to the Tower for a period of two years, the lock would be reset and they could start the climb back from the start. Another thing was that their raid group would be saved with the people who entered the first time, and they couldn’t bring others in, meaning no replenishing their numbers if someone died.

Morgan had been told that each floor was an entire world, but he didn’t really think that that would be possible. More than one raid group could enter, and they didn’t get dropped on the same floor with each other. Morgan had a theory that it wasn’t actually an entire world but just made to seem like one. Or I am wrong, and Oxy rules thousands of identical universes and uses them for his little games?

He had been working on getting better with Klyn, too. He had adjusted his basic form after he and Ta’elara had done some experimentation, and now his basic form was slightly different. Externally, it looked the same, Klyn mimicking the skin so that he could have sensations, but the rest was far different. Klyn still needed muscles to move, but he had reinforced the bones to be completely made out of mithril. He had also added two sacks inside, one filled with acid and the other with venom, and had attached two tendrils similar to the ones his Chimera Plant used to have, adding a slit in his palm so that they could extend out and act as delivery systems. When the tendrils were retracted inside the arm, the slit was barely even noticeable, so it still looked like an ordinary hand. But
