Messing with DNA

“You’re the only one who understands me,” Josh said.

Rob smirked. “Nah. Even I don’t understand you.”

“Well, then I’m really sunk.”

“If it helps, I think things are clearing up. They’re not anywhere close to clear. But the direction you took with Matt has showed us the radical nature of where we’re going. I think when you become more settled on what this is, you’ll see most of the others come along.”

“I don’t know about Matt.”

“He might come along. But you’re right; he’s having the most trouble. I think it’s because at first this impacts him the most. And he didn’t have this revelation like you did. So until you’re able to articulate it with more precision, he’ll be in the dark and feel like he’s bumping into things.”

“I’m afraid it’s me he wants to bump into.”

“Ha. Well, I won’t tell you that won’t happen. But he’s a good guy. Don’t fault him for being where you were just last year.”

“Oh, I don’t,” Josh said. “And you’re right. I am learning not just where we ought to go but also some things about how to get us there. It’s occurred to me that despite all the changes we’ve gone through since LifePoint was planted, none of them involved fundamentally reordering why we exist.”

“You’re flipping the script. No, that’s not it. I know what you’re doing. You’re messing with DNA,” Rob said.

Josh perked up. “Wow. Yeah. That’s exactly what it is.”

“Right now, you’re just poking the church with a stick. But I bet the gamma rays are coming.”

Josh nodded.

Rob said, “I hope you’re ready for the fallout.”

“Sure,” said Josh. “But also, for the fall-in.”
