Unlike no-limit hold ’em tournaments, you cannot succeed in limit hold ’em solely by your skill at playing before the flop. But the way you survive in a limit hold ’em tournament is by playing strong cards (and, more important, by giving opponents the perception that you are playing only strong cards) and playing them aggressively. You need to be solid before the flop to take advantage of the great post-flop situations offered in limit hold ’em.

I have categorized playable starting hands in Groups A through E. The percentages refer to the percentage of the time you receive a particular hand or a better one. (There are 1,326 two-card combinations, consisting of 78 pairs, 312 suited duos, and 936 unsuited duos.)
