Your hands each have a different role. The hand closer to the fence (the right hand, if the fence is to your right) is the feed hand; it pushes the board forward. (Fig. 4-79) Keep this hand level as it moves forward or you’ll wind up lifting the board off the blade. This will happen either if your hand is too high and directly lifts the work off the table, or, more likely, too low, where you’ll lever it off the table. You’ll usually start with this hand at the end of the board. The forearm of your pushing hand should be roughly aligned with the direction of cut. This is not as critical as with hand tools, and you shouldn’t worry about perfect alignment.
