Cameron opened his eyes, trying to remember where he was, and for a second even who he was. He could barely breathe, and couldn’t make a single word until he had finally hacked his way through a long fit of choking and coughing.

He looked around at a sea of concern, two medics and a crowd of strangers.

“Are you okay?” asked the nearest medic, kneeling beside him.

“What happened?” Cameron finally managed to ask.

“You just fell down,” said one of the strangers. A German tourist.

“You’ve been out for about five minutes,” added a woman who looked like his wife. “We called an ambulance.”

“That’s not necessary.” Cameron sat all the way up.

Although maybe that wasn’t right. Maybe he should get checked out.

The pain was excruciating.

I’ve run a full diagnostic. There’s nothing a doctor can do for you, unless you’re ready to give up and spend the rest of your time in bed.

“You know I don’t want that,” Cameron muttered as the medics helped him to stand.

Then I will need to recalibrate your dose. You have less time than I had hoped.
