Bebop entered Oken's atmosphere, causing the ship to jerk and shake. The planet looked like a rusty brown marble with one large blue strip wrapped around its middle like a ring.

Clouds parted, showing the crew a view of cornfields that hadn't been harvested. The planet appeared to be an endless field of the stuff. Small dots worked machinery and they passed the occasional cluster of houses which formed a village, but apart from that, the planet was mostly uninhabited.

"Nate, how large is this planet's population?" Aurora asked.

"Thirty million."

"Thirty million on a planet twice the size of Earth. No wonder this planet looks deserted," Bow said, making his way closer to the viewing screen.

"Why are there so many damn cornfields?" Aurora asked.

"They use it for fuel," Nate said, turning to Aurora. "This planet is one of the largest suppliers of corn in this galactic region. That's why there are so few people; they need to maximize space and minimize the number of mouths to feed.

"Everyone on this planet has a job related to the production and manufacture of corn."

"Sounds like a shitty way to grow up. John, take us down to where the last outbreak was reported. Let's see what we can find out."
