Chapter 7: The second way.

Jonas picked up his phone as it vibrated on the nightstand. "Yes, Bill," he answered, his voice steady.

"Hank is on his way home. He gave me the okay to search his property," Bill said, sounding both relieved and wary.

Jonas thought for a moment, a plan beginning to form in his mind. A smile crept across his face. "Everyone knows me in town, right?" he asked, already anticipating Bill's response.

Bill laughed heartily. "You? After the trouble with Frankie and his dad, you're practically a celebrity," he said, his tone a mix of amusement and camaraderie.

Jonas's smile widened. "How do you feel about deputizing me for a day?" he asked, his voice carrying a hint of mischief.

Bill's laughter abruptly stopped. "Jonas, for fuck's sake, I can't. I have to have the guys from the station with me out here, and they'll ask questions," he said, the seriousness of the situation evident in his tone.

Jonas nodded to himself, undeterred. "Then how about this," he began, his mind racing as he laid out an alternative plan. "Donna is already a Sheriff's deputy, and Hank believes she's on his side. We can use that to our advantage."

Bill was silent for a moment, considering the proposal. "Go on," he said finally, intrigued.

Jonas continued, his voice low and deliberate. "Donna can play her part convincingly. She'll accompany you during the search, acting as if she's there to keep an eye on you and make sure everything goes smoothly. Hank will trust her presence, thinking she’s there to protect his interests."

Bill interjected, "But she'll be looking for clues, right?"

"Exactly," Jonas confirmed. "Donna will gather intel discreetly while you conduct the search. After you leave, she'll pass on everything she found to us. Hank will never know she was working with us the whole time."

Bill sighed, a mix of reluctance and acceptance in his voice. "It's risky, but it could work. Donna's good at what she does, and Hank won't suspect a thing."

Jonas's confidence grew as he spoke. "We have to be careful, but this could give us the edge we need. Donna's the key to getting inside without raising Hank's suspicions."

Bill finally agreed. "Alright, we'll do it your way. I'll brief Donna and make sure she's ready. We need to coordinate this perfectly."

Jonas felt a surge of determination. "We will. Let's make sure every detail is covered. We'll catch Hank off guard, and by the time he realizes what's happening, it'll be too late."

They discussed the finer points of the plan, ensuring that every possible scenario was accounted for. By the time Jonas hung up the phone, he felt a renewed sense of purpose. He looked over at Donna, who was sitting nearby, her eyes full of questions.

"What's going on?" she asked, sensing the gravity of the situation.

Jonas walked over and took her hands in his, explaining the plan in detail. Donna listened intently, nodding as she absorbed the information.

"Are you sure about this?" she asked, her voice steady but laced with concern.

Jonas squeezed her hands reassuringly.
