Chapter Nineteen

Leo’s leaning over me, calling my name.

The world around us seems so dark.

But he’s there and I feel safe.

I can hear Franklin gurgling beside me.

Leo looks tired. His chest is heaving.

There are long and ragged lacerations on both sides of his neck but, thankfully, no blood.

I look at him properly. Trying to convey my thoughts, lungs burning too much to speak.

His eyes look different.

The pupils are narrow and grey.

Head injury.

I try to reach up to him but my arms are deeply bruised and the muscles ache.
