âAlejandro?â
I burrow further into the blankets, ignoring the whisper.
âAlejandro? Mi amor?â
Mi amor? A grin tugs at my lips as I crack an eyelid. The light coming in around the blinds is enough for me to take in Sophie leaning over me.
âIâm sorry to wake you, but I have to go to work,â she says. âAnd I canât get the bracelet off.â She holds up her arm so I can see itâs still circling her wrist . . . exactly where itâs going to stay.
âJust wear it,â I mumble.
âTo work? No! What if I lose it? Or it gets stolen?â
I snort into my pillow. âNo oneâs going to steal it.â Theyâd have to have a death wish to do something so stupid.
âNo, come on. Tell me how to get it off. I canât figure out the clasp.â
âIt needs a special tool. Itâll take forever to get it off.â
âUgh. Iâm going to be late.â
âHey,â I call as she heads for the door. âWhereâs my kiss?â
She rolls her eyes, but gives me a smile as she rushes back to lay a quick one on my lips. âIâll see you later, right?â
âYeah.â
Once the quiet settles around me again, I realize my bodyâs decided itâs awake. What a pain in the ass. I may sleep better when sheâs beside me, but as soon as sheâs gone, my mind canât resist running on its hamster wheel. Reaching for my cell, I check the time. 6:52. In the fucking morning. I launch the new and improved tracking app JJ installed and it shows Sophieâs location is a mere six blocks away in the coffee drive-thru line. Do I feel bad about the tracker in the bracelet? No. Do I have plans to tell her about the tracker in the bracelet? Thatâs unclear. Weâre supposedly on this new I respect you, you respect me thing, but telling her is going to mean a fight, one that will probably involve tears and rage and guilt. None of which Iâm fond of. But thereâll be make-up sex . . . hopefully.
Before the tell her/donât tell her conundrum can really get spinning, I head down to the gym. Iâve got a full day in front of me anyway, starting with finding out what Nicky G was up to last night.
Iâm at the Garden before nine thirty, Niner in tow, bitching about the ungodly hour. After sending Skip on a coffee run, we go down to the basement where Luis is sitting with his feet up on the desk outside his little dungeon setup. Nicky G is sitting on a chair in the corner, clean and wearing new clothes, scarfing down something out of a bowl like itâs the first thing heâs eaten in a month.
âWhatâs all this?â
âJefe,â Luis says, his feet falling to the floor. âGot some news.â
Luis, Niner and I go back upstairs to the parking garage. We keep our voices down, even if weâre far enough from anyone that we wonât be overheard.
âSeems Nicky G had a visit from Harvey Sharkane a couple days ago,â Luis starts.
