Chapter 22
I woke up to the sound of my alarm clock, still in Shawnâs embrace. We were spooning. I have never done that before. I would have to get up now, but I didnât want to wake him. His breathing was slow and peaceful and there was no way of standing up without moving him. But I had to get ready, like, five minutes ago, if I want to catch the lecture on time.
With all the drama going on with everyone around me, I was too stressed out to even think about studying at the moment. So, I decided to stay in today. I never missed a class before in my life. It looked like I was just making up excuses to stay in Shawnâs arms. And maybe a part of me really liked the feeling of his tall warm body against mine. Okay, I did like it.
And the fact that I saw Ben last night having another girl over, eased the guilty feeling that was building up inside, for loving this sleeping situation here so much. I didnât have proof of him actually cheating, but it looked bad.
Cheating, I thought, we werenât really together. What was I thinking?
But did I like Shawn? I have been overthinking this question from the first time I saw him and I still didnât have the answer. In the last months, we got to know each other pretty well. He was starting to open up to me and trust me, which he didnât do with others. I could talk to him and I knew he would listen. I thought we were starting to become really good friends. But lying here in his arms right now gives me feelings, you shouldnât have towards a friend.
He breathed in deeply and a loud âMmmmâ escaped his lips. He was waking up, squeezing me tighter. He pulled me to his chest, putting his head over my shoulder and I got a humming feeling in my stomach.
âGood morning, sweetie,â he said, with his eyes still closed. His breath still smelled like cheap alcohol, but it didnât bother me. I knew the last few days must have upset him.
I teased him back, âI thought, I told you not to call me that.â
âThat you did, but Iâm still hoping youâll like it eventually.â
I turned around in his embrace, now facing him. He opened his eyes to melt me with the softest look. His eyes were dark brown, almost black. I never saw them so close up. A few long black strands of hair were covering his face, which gave him a mysterious look. He was hot. No wonder all the girls were crazy about him.
I sighed, still looking into his eyes, âWhat are we doing here?â
âI donât know about you, but Iâm thinking about kissing you,â he reached out to lift my chin, âbut I wonât.â
âOh,â was all I managed to put together. He took my breath away for a second, but then disappointment rushed through me.
That was the second time he told me that he wanted to kiss me but didnât.
