By the time my training is concluded each night, I’m weak and famished. But I force myself to find the energy to eat dinner with different families of the Coven. The history that belongs to not only these people but also me has been earth-shattering. They shared how the Coven was first formed by four different families. These families made up the original houses that governed the Coven and split up the duties between them. Once other families joined and the Coven began to grow, other rules and formalities were born. Thus, creating the governing structure of the Coven.

My family is part of the original houses that entitled them to a Bonded Warrior Witch, being part of the governing, and one of the four votes for the Coven’s decisions. However, when a Dark Queen is alive and able, they are the rightful heir to the crown and oversee all of the decisions without the need of the four houses.

I’m lost in the story of one of the first families’ histories when the thundering gasps begin bouncing off the castle walls, yanking the Coven’s attention from their dinners. Before I can turn in the direction of the distraction, Lilly and Jake are in front of me. I push each of them to the side and make my way through the crowd to see Kaiden walking in from the parlor with tears streaming down his face. His tiny hands are desperately grasping a letter dripping in blood.
