Chapter Fifteen

Savanna

September 1780

Savanna could not believe her friends would make such a heinous accusation. Though she thought they were being ridiculous, she was curious as to what was in the journals to make her friends believe such a thing.

She sat on her bed and picked one of them up. She flipped to a marked page and read. “I could not help but chuckle a little bit inside as I watched the expression on Robert’s face as he failed once again. The ritual produced nothing except a lifeless body...”

Savanna threw the journal back onto the bed and sighed. “Such rubbish.”

She knew the love that she and Robert had for each other was probably not conventional, but it was real. She felt from the moment they began their relationship that they had to fight for it every step of the way. Life threw challenges and people threw their opinions. Yet they endured.

Robert may be many things, but he is certainly not a murderer, she thought .

Savanna felt a surge go through her body as if something was compelling her to look under her pillow. She saw a journal barely peeking from underneath and pulled it out. It was not marked, but she somehow knew which page to flip to. She read.

“Robert blames me for his failed ritual. Tonight I was in charge of setting up the sacrificial space. I created the white circle and lit the candles. He says that I must have done something wrong. I think this is the furthest he has ever gotten. Before the girl choked to death on her own blood, I saw her levitate in the air. I finally believe him…”

Suddenly a flash of the vision she had a few months ago popped into her head. She felt her body go weak and the journal fell from her hand onto the floor. Her stomach felt uneasy and she quickly ran over to her dresser, grabbed a vase, and vomited in it.

“This can’t be true?” she whispered.

She walked over to her wash bowl and dabbed her face with a cold wet washcloth.

Her heart was racing and her head felt dizzy but she knew what she had to do. She had to confront Robert. She straightened herself out and picked up the journal from the floor. With determination in her steps and courage in her heart, she made her way to Robert’s study.

When she arrived, Robert was deep in paperwork and in a discussion with Peter and Quinn.

“Robert I must speak with you,” she demanded. She was feeling a bit intimidated by a room full of men but she knew the matter at hand was important so she held her ground.

The men stopped talking and all turned their heads toward her.

“Can this wait, love? We are in the middle of a very important meeting,” Robert said.

Savanna walked in with her head held high and threw the journal in the middle of his desk on top of the paperwork. “No this cannot wait.”

Robert took one look at the journal then glanced at Peter.
