The Healing

With Tyriel in such a dire state, Kirin never felt more grateful and relieved to have help. As he beheld his godmothers casting their enchantments at the angel’s bedside, he watched in awe as, for the fourth time, they went into a trance-like state, held hands, chanted, and swayed over the Angelic’s still form. There was little he could do to help, and so he decided to get what little sleep he could. Exhausted from having had little to no rest since his hunt for game a few days ago, he slumped onto the thick shaggy bear rug that lay before the hearth and left the sisters to do their work.

Several hours later, it was Ejaenin who woke Kirin from a deep slumber by whispering softly in his ear, “Good evening, Dear One … It is time to come back to this world.” Ejaenin allowed Kirin a bit of time to pry his eyes open before she took his hand and led him to the small overgrown courtyard just outside the Galley. She watched Kirin with a keen eye as she smoothed her skirt and took a seat on a large boulder that was once a part of the castle wall. Wearing an expression of great concern, she quietly asked him, “Have you given much thought lately to finding the Dragon Stone, Godson?”

Kirin smiled as he searched Ejaenin’s eyes and contemplated her offer. He loved all his aunts dearly, but he had always felt especially close to her. After only a few moments thought, he shook his head glumly and responded, “I must avenge my father’s death, Auntie…” he paused before adding, “… as well as Tyriel’s attempted murder.”

Ejaenin’s heart went out to Kirin and she shook her head sadly. “You are so much like your father, Dear One,” she said as she regarded the determination in his tortured eyes. She took a deep breath in and paused to think of what she would do without her young prince. But, her eyes mirrored her resolve as she provoked him, “First, we must find the Dragon Stone, Kirin, for that was your primary mission before all of this happened.”

Kirin picked up on the fact that Ejaenin had called him by his name. She usually only did so when she was deadly serious. He responded in kind, “It still is my intention to find the stone, Ejaenin, but my priorities have changed.” Briefly, he glanced over to where Tyriel still lay.

“Have they?” Ejaenin asked, despite knowing what he meant. Seeing the consternation written on Kirin’s face, she sighed deeply before she declared, “It is imperative that we find the gem soon, for the longer we wait, the harder it will be to reverse the curses on those who suffer Its effects, not to mention restore your father’s name.” She turned to Kirin, set back her shoulders, and locked eyes with him. “I simply wish to know if your intention is to reverse these spells and use the Dragon Stone to unite Its two halves within you, Kirin, or maintain your current form.
