The prophecy

Mornings at the Glamora Miami club had always been quiet and empty, but it was different today. The staff, including the strippers and contractors of the club, had organized a small memorial for Henry. The lady bartender, Susan, led the program and bade goodbye to everyone when it was over. Dan had canceled work and shut down all the Glamora business in all the locations in the world for the day. The Miami club had been Henry’s favorite, so Dan decided it was better to hold the ceremony there.

So much was on Dan’s mind as he sat in the manager’s office where he and Henry had experienced memorable events, from their frequent spats to the orgies with the club’s contracted strippers. Dan stared at the ceiling as he lost interest in mourning his friend due to the peculiar circumstances of his death. The nightmares and flashbacks never stopped ripping through his mind, and all he desired was slitting King Miguel’s throat. Only then would he be able to mourn.

Dan tried to think deeply about what happened the night before. It had been a bizarre night that would not leave his mind even as Susan had called on him to give his speech during the event. He found it hard to articulate his words whenever the lady from the Centurion cult came to mind. Susan walked into the office. “Hey, Boss, I’ve shut down the place already and I’m heading out. New York called and had already booked an expensive customer for the VVIP service. It’s a celebrity’s birthday. They say it’s bad business if they shut down today, especially since they already received twenty thousand dollars and expect to make upwards of one hundred thousand dollars. What’s your call?” Susan said.

Dan was irritated by Susan’s interruption of his thoughts. “If I say we are closed for a day, we are closed. We lose our discipline if I give New York a pass. Tell them to apologize and rebook, or they can refund the customer. We can afford to lose the money today, Susan. We make over six hundred thousand dollars in one hour in our U.S. market alone.” Dan walked up to the polished African Blackwood and gold cabinet where he kept the expensive drinks. He wondered why Henry had put such a piece of expensive furniture in a strip club. He brought out the most expensive tequila bottle and poured a shot in one of the whisky glasses on the table. “No club is more special than the other,” Dan lied. New York, Miami, Atlanta, London, and Bangkok were cities they took very seriously. Susan knew this, but Dan knew she was smart enough not to argue.

“Ok, Boss, will let them know. See you next week,” Susan said and left the office. Dan took a sip from his drink. Even after buying the club from his Aunty Rachael, he smirked at his accumulated wealth. He missed her sometimes and her reassuring smile. She would have been consoling him after what Henry’s death was doing to him.
