The best way to extend this hike is to follow the Timberline Trail No. 600 to the east after crossing the Bald Mountain saddle. Turn left on the Timberline Trail and hike 2 miles, one-way, as the trail gradually drops about 400 feet to a crossing of the Muddy Fork under the ice of the Sandy Glacier.
