Kerry made breakfast, her heart all aflutter. Seamus did that to her, he made her behave like a little girl, who had been given the sweetest desert or the scummiest ice-cream. Her legs turned to jelly when she kissed him, and her heart did butterflies. It was extraordinary. She couldn’t explain it, but Seamus made her feel like no other man had ever made her feel. And even better, she thought smiling, she was no longer a suspect. The contemplation of increasing her intimacy with Seamus inflamed her suddenly and she had to sternly force herself back to the task in hand.

Seamus arrived only a few seconds after she put down his plate of food and his coffee. She was hungry too and dished herself up some scrambled eggs on toast. Wondering if he always timed things this perfectly she sat down opposite him and began to eat.

“What are you going to do today?” she asked.

“Unfortunately, we are going to have to issue an arrest warrant for your son. And we will also have to search his flat.”

“Go right ahead, the little toe rag, I hope you catch him as soon as possible.” She smiled grimly.

“We’ll do our best.”

“Do you have to go up to Dublin then?” She was evidently hoping this wasn’t the case from her expression.

“No, I’ll have the Bureau take care of it unless they find something significant it’s Liam himself we want.”

“You don’t think he is the murderer though, do you?”

“I don’t know what to think, Kerry, but to be honest I don’t think he has it in him, even though he could have had a motive against Father O’Flaherty.”

“Oh good!” She breathed a sigh of relief. “Who do you think the murderer is then?”

“Well, now I don’t know and that’s the honest truth, we’ll have to keep on digging.”

“I’m glad you don’t think it’s me.” She smiled.

“No half as glad as me.”

Seamus finished his breakfast and waited for Kerry to finish hers in companionable silence.

“I like to see you eating with me,” he observed.

“Do you?”

“Yes, but do you know what else I like more than that?”

“Tell me.”

“I like you kissing me, and you know what, you’ve not done it today. You’ve been slacking on me, Kerry O’Shea!”

“Well you haven’t kissed me either!” she shot back.

“I think then we need to remedy that.”

“Oh you!” Kerry got up though and stood waiting for his kiss. Seamus obliged in short order.
