Okay, I’ll admit that I had a hard time making the job of cashier at a bookstore sound sexy. The point is that there is always more to the story than just the date, job title, and location. What did you learn? What project did you take on? What do you take a sense of pride in? What did you accomplish?

Try to think about the job as an experience and about what that experience has meant to you. Community service activities are much easier to elaborate on because these activities are more purpose driven. Community service organizations also provide a lot of marketing material about their events that can be easily used in a resume.
