For a second, Kinjal was sure it was a millionaire duck from a cartoon or something. But then he noticed something funny about the arm doing the swimming. “Are those long nails?”

“Kinjal.” His sister grabbed his arm, hard. “Not just nails, but whoever’s swimming has fangs and horns too!”

“What?” In his surprise, Kinjal let his voice rise, which made Thums-Up let out a loud bark.

“Who’s there?” The person—no, not person, creature—at the top of the coin pile whipped around to stare down at them. And not only did it have horns and teeth and nails, but a pair of stoplight-red glowing eyes!

“I’m risking it with the guards!” Kinjal yanked at the door bar with all his might. “Let’s get out of here!”

But the old-fashioned bar across the door was jammed, and Kinjal couldn’t move it! Kiya jumped in front of him, trying it again. “What’s wrong with you? Get it open already!” she yelled.

But that’s when the creature from the pile of coins swooped down—flew?—toward them, talons out and face in a fierce grimace. She was beautiful, in a way. Long, curly black hair, huge eyes and lashes, a beautiful silk sari, and jewels at her neck, ears, and fingers. But beautiful or not, those horns, teeth, and talons looked seriously sharp!

“Who are you? How did you get in here?” she screeched in a voice that hurt the twins’ ears.

Thums-Up went wild, flying up to try to stop the monster. She snarled and bit, doing her best to protect them. But the creature turned, swiping at the loyal dog-slash-pakkhiraj.

“Thums-Up!” both Kiya and Kinjal yelled at almost the same time. No way had they just saved her twice from the Great Blah only for her now to be attacked by a whole new monster!

Kinjal jumped forward, acting by instinct. Only, his instinct was to throw a stream of water at the attacking creature. A stream of water that exploded, by magic, from his hands!

Poor Thums-Up was so scared she just kept flying higher. The creature zoomed after her, spitting mad.

“She’s going to get Thums-Up!” Kinjal wailed, still shooting water.

“Not if I have to say something about it!” Seriously unexpectedly, Kiya put her hands on the ground and made the entire room shake, like some kind of magical earthquake. The shaking made the monster kind of fly off course, missing Thums-Up with her outstretched nails.

“What did you do?” Kinjal yelled, amazed.

But from her expression, it was obvious that Kiya was just as shocked.

That’s when the most shocking thing of all happened. “What are you water and land clan doing here?” snapped the beautiful flying monster lady. “Who are you?”
