As we finished lunch, Emily let us know each outbuilding could have one of several groups of goblins, but we would only know what group it was once we went inside them. Some of them could be tough, and the reason for clearing the patrols was so there would be a relatively safe retreat path if needed. Atlantis Cove had lost people on the boss fight here, not the outbuildings, but it was better safe than sorry.

The building closest to the pool had two little towers and was the hardest of the three, so we decided to save that for the next day when we were fresh. Instead, we started on the closest of the two-story buildings.

“Not too bad,” Emily said as soon as we entered the building. “This looks to be what we call the kitchen building. There are four working rooms down here before heading upstairs for the living quarters. The order of the rooms changes, but the most important thing is to open the door, and everyone rushes in and closes the door. If the door is open too long or you fight in the hall, the other rooms on the floor agro. We found that out the hard way.”

We double-checked we were ready and buffed up, then barged through the first door one after the other with Todd in the lead and Emily in the back, closing the door. This was the galley; six goblins were chopping, stirring, cooking, and making food.

As three of the goblins charged with raised knives and cleavers, the one making a soup threw the entire pot of soup at us. It splashed on the floor, and the odor immediately gave us a nauseated poison debuff. Before I could try to cure it, Emily let us know we either had to move or fight through it. As long as we smelled it, the nausea would not go away.

Before I could move, Todd had all three melee fighters attacking him, so I switched from Nature’s Cure to Thorn Shield on him. The soup thrower was the healer, so all the ranged fighters focused on him while I dealt melee damage to help Todd and save my mana for the damage shields.

I was halfway through beating down the Level 18 I was fighting when the goblin healer dropped. Our ranged fighters switched to one of the ranged goblins throwing knives at us. I wondered if they had endless knives when Emily said the knife throwers would switch to melee soon. The knives were still coming as one died, but the other charged us shortly after that.

With one of the knife throwers dead, that left four melee fighting goblins. Todd picked up the new fighter, and we all dropped into the familiar pattern of picking off the mobs Todd was fighting one by one, from the weakest to the strongest. The only difference this time was that as soon as Todd felt comfortable, he shifted us out of range of the spilled soup.

“We have three more rooms, and then the top floor?” Todd asked, as we all found a place to meditate.
