Boz was sitting in his office on campus, grading papers, when Consuela Calhoun poked her head through the doorway.

“It’s on for tonight,” she said, a conspiratorial look in her eye. “He invited me to dinner.”

He set his red pen down on the surface of his desk and turned his chair to face her.

“Where are y’all going?” he asked, leaning back in his swivel chair and crossing his legs.

“He suggested we go to the Texian Club.”

The Texian Club was a private club restricted to major donors and faculty members of Travis University. It was owned by the Texian Foundation and included a Jack Nicklaus golf course, an Olympic swimming pool, tennis courts, racquetball and squash courts, and a world class workout facility.

Its two restaurants—one formal, one casual—were among the finest in the entire region.

“Wise decision,” said Boz with a twinkle in his eyes. “Plus, it’s only about ten minutes from your apartment.”

The advantage to going to the Texian Club is that it could easily be passed off as a routine faculty business dinner. By not seeming to hide their get together, it would offer an aboveboard appearance. To do otherwise would be when the tongues would start to wag.

She glanced over at the clock on his office wall.

“Well, I’ve got to run,” she said, wiggling three fingers in a wave. “I’ve got a class in five minutes.”
