âSimone and I had a big fight yesterday. I think we might break upâif we havenât already.â
Raybury asked if I wanted to break up.
âIf she had an open mind then maybe notâ¦. Iâve always been open to trying new things, experimentation, you know. As it stands now, I donât know if weâre the perfect match. Sheâs hot, but sheâs probably not my, you know, Perfect. I just donât see how we can be together if sheâs not willing to try this out with me.â
Raybury leaned forward. âDude,â he said, âif this world were perfect, if women were perfect, couples would stay together. Families would stay together.â
âBut thatâs not the world we live in,â Brannigan said. âInvincible Father knows this world. He understands right now the struggles men face when dealing with women and anybody else whoâs different or doesnât agree. Thatâs why right now weâre not fully Manifestedâwhat we call âMax Manifested.ââ
âThatâs when you make it on The List,â I said.
âThatâs right. The List. The Manifest.â
Raybury cleared his throat. âWeâre told perfection doesnât exist, that thereâs no perfect guy. We donât buy that. Perfection does exist. Men can be perfect. Just look at Invincible Father. He used to be on earth, in this world, one of us, trying like us to be perfect. Through His complete and Invincible Faith, and His strength and attitude, He succeeded. He no longer fails. He doesnât experience breakups. He doesnât go through divorces. His women never leave Him. Anything His family wants, He gives them.â
âAnd He gets anything He wants from them,â Brannigan said. âAnything.â
âThatâs great,â I said. âButâ¦doesnât that happen only in the afterlife? Not this world?â
âIt can happen in this world. It should happen in this world.â
âIt will happen in this world.â Brannigan offered up the Book of the Manifested. âItâs all here,â he said. âHow this world will be.â
âOnly a man and a woman can be married,â I said, my eyes locked with theirs. âAn actual man and an actual woman.â
âThatâs correct, Stan. Women were made for men, after all.â
âThe young Manifested man searches for his Perfect, and once he finds her he works on her until sheâs convinced to join.â
âAlso correct.â
âBut during that time sex is withheld.â
âNot necessarily,â Brannigan said. âSex is very important to the Manifested way. We donât say no to sex before marriage, but the man must be in control. He must be the one to call the shots. Itâs his choice, not hers.â
âAnd it better be with the right chick,â said Raybury.
âItâs very important, Stan,â Brannigan said, âthat as a man you know you have a much greater burden than your Perfect. Thatâs how it is in this world. Men have it worse, they just do. Women can failâtheyâre allowed to fail, theyâre expected to fail, they will continue to failâbut men must be perfect in this world, so they can achieve Invincibility in the next.â
I told the missionaries I had never been clear on what happened after death. Brannigan and Raybury explained that in the
