Chapter Nineteen
LYNNE
âYou wanted to have a little chat, huh, darling?â He sauntered over to the window frame, leaning against it casually. A cold shiver tingled through me as his gaze seemed to strip me bare, leaving me feeling vulnerable and exposed.
âYouâve got some nerve, acting like that,â I retorted, my voice laced with a mix of anger and determination. âTry pulling that stunt again, and I swear Iâll punch you in the face. Hard.â
Rio let out a deep chuckle and approached me. âWell, not to be blunt but if you did that, the only thing becoming hard would be my dick.â
I swallowed, unsure of how to respond as a blush spread across my cheeks, turning them as red as a beet. Instead of uttering another word, I lifted my gaze to meet his eyesâwild, untamed, like a predator on the prowl. In that moment, I was suddenly well aware of how much he towered over me and how small I actually was. I knew he could end me with a snap of his fingers. And, against all reason, a part of me found that power undeniably sexy.
âYou know, I think youâve got a lot of nerve bringing your fucking lover here.â
âFirst of all,â I said, taking a step back as he approached me, âheâs not my lover, second of all, he came on his own because you kidnapped me.â
He halted right in front of me, his shoes toe-to-toe with mine.
Taut lines formed across his jaw, and he lifted a large hand only to grip my chin, forcing me to look right into his gleaming sapphire eyes. âBut he had you, didnât he? His touch was on you, claiming you for his own. But darling, youâre mine. Every inch of you, every breath you take,â his voice dropped to a low, dangerous whisper, âbelongs to me and only me.â
His words took my breath away.
There was no mistaking the accusation in his voice and a nervous flutter filled my stomach. I did sleep with Illiam but only to get over Rio. Something I had never achieved in my life. He leaned into my space, the heat of his body seared against my own, and in a desperate attempt to keep him away I thrust my hand flat against his hard chest.
His eyes narrowed as he glared down at my fingers fisting in his shirt, digging into the fabric and matching his intensity with my own. The air crackled with anticipation, as if a storm was brewing, ready to unleash its fury.
âDo you love him?â he said.
Before I could even muster a snarky response, he closed in on me, trapping me against the wall. His hands landed on either side of my head now, caging me in, his fingers digging into the surface with a force that made me gasp.
âDo. You. Love. Him?â
âWhy does it matter?â I shot back. âIâm repeating myself over and over again and Iâm sick of it. You went and married someone else, started a whole other life. I
