Chapter Nineteen

LYNNE

“You wanted to have a little chat, huh, darling?” He sauntered over to the window frame, leaning against it casually. A cold shiver tingled through me as his gaze seemed to strip me bare, leaving me feeling vulnerable and exposed.

“You’ve got some nerve, acting like that,” I retorted, my voice laced with a mix of anger and determination. “Try pulling that stunt again, and I swear I’ll punch you in the face. Hard.”

Rio let out a deep chuckle and approached me. “Well, not to be blunt but if you did that, the only thing becoming hard would be my dick.”

I swallowed, unsure of how to respond as a blush spread across my cheeks, turning them as red as a beet. Instead of uttering another word, I lifted my gaze to meet his eyes—wild, untamed, like a predator on the prowl. In that moment, I was suddenly well aware of how much he towered over me and how small I actually was. I knew he could end me with a snap of his fingers. And, against all reason, a part of me found that power undeniably sexy.

His touch was on you, claiming you for his own. But darling, you’re mine. Every inch of you, every breath you take,” his voice dropped to a low, dangerous whisper, “belongs to me and only me.”

His words took my breath away.

There was no mistaking the accusation in his voice and a nervous flutter filled my stomach. I did sleep with Illiam but only to get over Rio. Something I had never achieved in my life. He leaned into my space, the heat of his body seared against my own, and in a desperate attempt to keep him away I thrust my hand flat against his hard chest.

His eyes narrowed as he glared down at my fingers fisting in his shirt, digging into the fabric and matching his intensity with my own. The air crackled with anticipation, as if a storm was brewing, ready to unleash its fury.

“Do you love him?” he said.

Before I could even muster a snarky response, he closed in on me, trapping me against the wall. His hands landed on either side of my head now, caging me in, his fingers digging into the surface with a force that made me gasp.

“Do. You. Love. Him?”

“Why does it matter?” I shot back. “I’m repeating myself over and over again and I’m sick of it. You went and married someone else, started a whole other life. I
